Forging Hammer

Forging Hammer

This is a hammer I just made. I have been wanting to try one since I read "The Hand Forged Knife" By Carl Schroen. He had a huge one and I could not see how it would work. It works like a dream. The swing is a bit different but it is a lot easier to use than I expected.

Tanto and Sheath

Tanto and Sheath

Here it is again out of it's home. The 6.25 inch Blade is forged from train car spring of 1" dia and shows a nice wavy hamon. The wood is Chalk de Viga a hardwood from South America more specifically the Yukatan Peninsula. It is related to Pernumbuco but some has very nice figure as seen here. The color is natural and will darken with age to a darker red-orange. The blade and handle OAL is 13.5 inches. The OAL with sheath is 14.75 inches. A copper Habaki accents the blade and Water Buffalo Horn accents the handle and sheath.

Persian Influense Competition cutter

Persian Influense Competition cutter

325 layers of 15n20 and 5160 forged in a random pattern. Blade shape was thought thru the different areas of competition. The knife performed well but the person behind the blade had a bad day. Unusual design, kind of a Kukriesk with a trailing point. Good for stabbing those peski little ping pong balls. Brass fixtures and canvas micarta top off this tough utility piece.
